Abstract
This study deals on the vulnerability of 200 university students to threat groups in Pampanga in terms of perceived personal and environmental factors. This is a Descriptive-Quantitative-Research. Most of the respondents rated moderate perception on their perceived level of vulnerability. On the respondents’ over-all perception of their level of vulnerability to violent extremism, males are more likely to score higher than females in terms of personal factors. It was found out that those who receive a lower rating of family income differ in perception from those who are receiving more. It can be inferred from the results of the study that personal and psychological factors play a greater role than the environmental factors in perceived susceptibility to violent extremism and radicalization.
It was proven that poverty and lack of opportunities indeed played a significant role in susceptibility to extremism and radicalization, it is suggested that the government further prioritize the provision of educational and employment opportunities to the youth as well as the out of school youth across the Philippines and a qualitative study to provide narratives and description on the knowledge of the university student respondents on ideology and concepts based on their perceptions and experiences acquired from the community and school organizations identified as front of the threat groups.
