Abstract
The nature of the jail officer’s work poses risks and threats to their mental
wellbeing. The research study aimed to identify the state of mental wellbeing, perceived
workplace stress, and perceived social support received to provide helpful
recommendations for them to cope with challenges faced at work. The study utilized a
descriptive correlational survey design which investigated the relationship among the
variables being studied. Data were collected from 169 jail officers using the
Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), the Warwick-Edinburgh
Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), and the Workplace Stress Scale through Google
Forms. The data was analyzed using the weighted mean of responses and the Spearman
rho correlation test. Based on the collected data, the following results were identified: the
jail officers of CCJ-MD had a strong social support system, moderate mental wellbeing,
and a low stress level. Further, relationships between perceived social support and mental
wellbeing had a significant, high positive correlation, while relationships between
perceived social support and perceived workplace stress had a significant, moderately
negative correlation. The findings also indicated that mental wellbeing and perceived
workplace stress had a significant, high negative correlation. With the results, it was
recommended that social support-focused intervention be considered crucial in promoting
mental wellbeing and resilience under perceived workplace stress.
