Abstract
Obesity is a public health menace and concern of health professionals because
its complications that may give to an individual but it seems that cases are still seen
from the members of the police force. Hence, this study was conducted to assess the
compliance of Police Regional Officer Cordillera to the weight loss management
program by revisiting its implementation. Specifically, this study sought answers to the
questions on how the respondents assessed the compliance to the weight loss
management program in terms of objective attainment, program implementation and
monitoring system; and the problems encountered that affected the weight loss
management program at PRO-COR to include the measures to address the problems
encountered that affected the weight loss management program at PRO-COR relative
to the aforementioned variables. The significant differences in the assessment of the
three groups of respondents on the compliance to the weight loss management
program to include problems encountered and the corresponding measures relative to
the aforementioned variables were included to determine their differences and
similarities of opinions. Based on the findings of the study a proposed action plan was
formulated.
This study adopted the descriptive method of research. Thirty-nine (39) Police
Commissioned Officers and twenty three (23) Non-Uniformed personnel of Police
Regional Office Cordillera served as the respondents of the study. It was hypothesized
that there is no significant difference on the respondents’ assessment on the
compliance to the weight loss management program, problems encountered and
proposed measures to address the problems encountered relative to objective
attainment, program implementation and monitoring system. Data were generated from
secondary sources and through the conduct of a survey, using a structured
questionnaire and personal interview. Percentage, weighted mean and analysis of
variance were applied in the analysis of data.
Results revealed that on the assessment of the weight loss management
program, the three groups of respondents assessed it was evident in terms of objective
attainment, program implementation and monitoring system. For the problems
encountered, it came out that the problems encountered on weight loss management
program were serious. As far the measures are concerned, objective attainment and
program implementation were assessed by the three respondents as recommended
and monitoring system as highly recommended.
Furthermore, the findings of the study showed that the assessment of the
respondents on objective attainment, program implementation and monitoring system
were with significant differences. As to the problems encountered, there was no
significant difference in terms of objective attainment and monitoring system and with
significant difference in terms of program implementation. Also, there was no significant
difference in terms of objective attainment as to measure to address the problems
encountered on weight loss management program and with significant difference in
terms of program implementation and monitoring system.
In the light of the foregoing findings, the following conclusions are drawn as to the
indicators on assurance of physically fit PNP personnel to perform efficiently and
effectively, efficiency in the conduct of physical examination of target participants using
BIM method and accuracy on BMI determination of overweight and obese individuals
are regarded as evident relative to the weight loss management program of Police
Regional Office Cordillera by the three groups of respondents. While the indicators on
limited assurance for the PNP personnel to be physically fit to perform efficiently and
effectively, lack of commitment of participants to the schedule of activity and BMI as
inaccurate determinant of overweight and obese individuals are considered as serious
by the three groups of respondents relative to the weight loss management program of
Police Regional Office Cordillera. On the other hand, the indicators on provide
additional activities needed in the implementation of the program to obese personnel
and clinically correlate BMI result to body built, healthy lifestyle and proper diet of
participants are the highly recommended measures to enhance the weight loss
management program of Police Regional Office Cordillera while the clinically correlate
BMI result to body built, healthy lifestyle and proper diet of participants is also a
recommended measure.
The three groups of respondents have similar assessment on the objective
attainment and monitoring system as to problems encountered and objective attainment
as to measures to address the problems encountered in the weight loss management
program of Police Regional Office Cordillera but differ in their opinions on the objective
attainment, program implementation and monitoring systems as to assessment of the
weight loss management program; program implementation as to problems
encountered; and program implementation and monitoring system as to measures to
address the problems encountered.
The weight loss management program of Police Regional Office Cordillera can
be enhanced through the provision of appropriate activities according to the need of the
person, enhancement of motivation to the Philippine National Police personnel with
elevated body mass index, procurement of tools in physical examination or calibration of
old equipment for accuracy and standardization purposes, measurement of
anthropometrics and correlation to body mass index method and inclusion of other
determinants of body fat such as waist to height ration (WHtR).
