Abstract
Although the Philippines has been exerting efforts to thwart the existence of human trafficking in every nook and cranny of the country, it is still flourishing, thriving and affecting the most vulnerable sectors of the society, like women and children. This research proposed countermeasure to address such societal issue, specifically in Angeles City. By utilizing both quantitative and qualitative approaches, the study delved into examining (1) the level of knowledge, extent of training of Angeles City Police Office (ACPO), and attitude on trafficking in persons; (2) the identification and investigation of cases of trafficking in persons; (3) the problems that ACPO encounters in responding to human trafficking cases; and (4) the challenges in coordinating/collaborating to prevent human trafficking. Through surveys and interviews, this study found that the police personnel relatively lack knowledge due to less training about human trafficking. This then becomes one of the reasons of their difficulties in identifying and investigating cases of trafficking in persons. Most of the time, victims are also uncooperative because they are afraid that they might lose their job and they are being intimidated by their traffickers-this also poses a challenge among police personnel. Increasing police training on trafficking in persons, educating the victims and the communities were seen as integral solutions to at least counter the proliferation of human trafficking in the city.
