Abstract
ABSTRACT

One of the most essential capital assets in local government is the provision of reliable firefighting apparatus such as firetrucks to effectively and efficiently respond to the emergencies. The current study explored the practices and challenges on the maintenance of fire trucks in eight BFP stations in the 4 th Congressional District of Nueva Ecija (i.e., Gapan City, Cabiao, General Tinio, Jaen, Penaranda, San Antonio, San Isidro, and San Leonardo) that served as basis for sustainable management practices to extend the lifespan of fire trucks. In order to design sustainable management practices, the study first determined the practices that may cause damage on fire trucks, the problems encountered in the maintenance of fire trucks, and the existing activities or practices implemented in the station to extend the life span of fire trucks. In addition, to guide in drafting the proposed intervention program to address the problems identified, future recommended activities that may be undertaken by the station were obtained from the employees. This research contributes to literature by combining policy reform and change management approaches and ideas on network theory and the specifics of BFP resulting in a multi-dimensional approach, which allows for a more comprehensive analysis of change processes. Its application has shown the potential of this approach in getting a more complete picture of relevant issues and dilemmas in the management of change processes in general – which is a first step in developing successful change strategies – whereas other approaches tend to emphasize only some and overlook others. This article also contributes to the assessment of change management processes, It can be used as an instrument to map change management strategies, assess their weaknesses and strengths and identify tensions and dilemmas that need to be addresses in order to manage these processes on realizing sustainable management practices to extend the lifespan of fire trucks through proper maintenance.
