Abstract
ABSTRACT
This action research dealt with the problem of how do we improve the coping mechanism of Driver Pump Operators (DPOs) of Valenzuela City Fire Station who experienced accidents. It proposes an alternative solution to this problem in the form of an Improved Coping Mechanism for DPOs through Morale Enhancement. We collaborated with the City Fire Director and the Driver Pump Operators (DPOs) of Valenzuela City Fire Station, Chief, Mental Health Unit, Chief, Legal Services Unit, and Chief, Morale and Benefits Section, Regional Office, BFP-NCR in order to generate data and gather information to substantiate this research study and be able to propose or recommend according to the results.
The improved coping mechanism of DPOs who experienced accidents through morale enhancement in the Valenzuela City Fire Station would thus provide the needed insight for policy and decision-making in the BFP-NCR, and in the BFP as a whole.
In this action research, data were generated by using ORJI method, Ladder of Inference (LOI) and journaling method. We also used survey method by floating a survey questionnaire with the DPOs to know their sentiments and opinions regarding the issue. In interpreting the data gathered from the DPOs, we used the statistical tool of mean or average score. Another useful tool used in this action research was Schein’s different types of inquiry: pure inquiry, diagnostic inquiry, and confrontive inquiry. We also gathered literature from other agencies which gave insights into the solution to the problem or issue being studied.
Based on the results gathered, the Bureau must address the idea of having assistance for those affected by accidents, both in the legal and medical aspects. Conducting stress debriefing sessions can help relieve the personnel with traumas or mental management in case of accidents, and providing basic auto-mechanic lessons will help them handle any mechanical problems better. Insurances and medical maintenance must also be provided to help in the recovery and regulation of the physical fitness of the personnel.
