Abstract
There is limited literature as far as the development of private security guard is concerned, particularly the acknowledgement of the core factors that play an immense role on their competence. On the contrary, our policemen in the policing industry, which is mainly provided by the government cannot be specifically compared to the private security industry, due to the fact that the policies and legislation regulating both sectors are totally different and specific in nature. Therefore, the study collated the perceived perception of security managers to assess the level of competency of (private) security guards in the basis of their performance and the qualifications standards of security guards. The study wanted to develop the competency of security guards so that they will become more competent force multipliers to fight criminality and protect the community, together with the policemen of the PNP, IPOO framework was used in order to formulate recommendations to improve the qualification standards of security guards. Recommendations such as providing cheap yet quality competency-based trainings, increase their wages and level up their educational attainment to at least 2nd yea college, were recommended to empower these un recognize protectors of the community.
