Abstract
The implications of inadequate inspections and overlooked fire hazards have been witnessed in tragic incidents that have claimed lives and caused extensive property damage. Thus, this study aims to determine the perceived competence and performance gaps of BFP fire safety inspectors of Fire District II. Using a descriptive research design, survey-questionnaires and tests were administered. Interviews were also conducted. Results show that the profile of fire safety inspectors within the Fire District 2 reveals a diverse workforce committed to ensuring fire safety. The training aspect indicates a proactive approach to professional development, with a focus on foundational competency training. However, the presence of individuals who have not undergone specific fire safety training raises concerns about the comprehensive preparedness of the workforce, especially given the critical nature of fire safety inspections. Moreover, the BFP fire safety inspectors are competent. However, organizational challenges and information and communication challenges are still existing. Based on the findings, the study recommends the adaptation of the competency framework as a basis for the competency program of the organization.
