Abstract
This case study, titled "Examining the Effects of the Suspension of Visitation Privilege as a Sanction for Misbehavior in Lupon District Jail," explores the impact of suspending visitation privileges as a disciplinary measure for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Lupon District Jail. Through in-depth interviews with sanctioned PDLs, their fellow PDL, and BJMP personnel, the research investigates the effectiveness of this sanction in promoting discipline and deterring misconduct within the facility. Findings reveal that the suspension of visitation privileges is a potent tool for addressing serious offenses, serving as a significant deterrent to potential misbehavior. Furthermore, it aids in the behavioral modification of sanctioned individuals, encouraging reflection and positive change. However, the study also highlights the substantial emotional toll this measure imposes on PDL underscoring the need for a balanced approach in its implementation. Despite its emotional impact, the suspension of visitation remains a crucial strategy in maintaining order and fostering rehabilitation in correctional settings.
