Abstract
This research explores the financial attitudes, behaviors, stress levels, and overall
financial well-being of firefighters within the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Ilocos
Norte, Philippines. The study aims to identify how demographic factors such as rank, age,
gender, marital status, educational attainment, years of service, family composition,
number of loans, and gross income influence these financial dimensions. Through a
comparative analysis, the study reveals significant differences in financial behaviors and
stress levels based on demographic profiles. Higher-ranked and older firefighters exhibit
better financial management and lower stress, attributed to increased financial literacy and
experience. Gender differences indicate men manage finances better, while women report
higher financial stress, likely due to societal expectations. Married firefighters demonstrate
better financial well-being, leveraging combined resources and support. Educational
attainment correlates with improved financial behavior and well-being, underscoring the
impact of financial literacy. The findings highlight the need for targeted financial education
and support programs, addressing the unique challenges faced by different demographic
groups to enhance financial resilience and overall well-being within the firefighting
community. This study's insights can guide policymakers and BFP leadership in
developing tailored financial literacy initiatives and support systems, ultimately improving
the financial health and job performance of firefighters.
