Abstract
The results or findings of this study contributes significantly to the PNP as regard the implementation of FTP to the newly appointed police officers/trainees recruitment and selection policy.
The researcher adopted a quantitative research design. It will present descriptive statistics and employ basic correlational analysis. This study made use of three (3) groups of respondents namely: the FTOs, Personnel assigned in Patrol, Traffic and Investigation sections in the Police Stations identified as Field Training Center (FTCs) and the PSFTP Class 2018-01 (SARIKDA).
This study used a survey questionnaire adopted from Oakland County Supervisory Competency Model, and the study of Saguibo (2012). The questionnaire was made to suit the present study to determine the perception of the respondents on the implementation and supervision of the discipline of the trainees during the six months duration of the FTP.
The perception of the respondents on Field Training Program on the attributes of discipline along: leadership attributes and courage management was quantified using the weighted mean with a 5-point scale. The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was utilized to determine differences in the assessment of the Police Trainees, FTOs and FTC personnel along the attributes of discipline.
Based on the study, the evaluation of the Field Training Program (FTP) towards an enhanced public safety officers’ discipline is highly needed with regards to leadership attributes and courage management.
The respondents have varied perception on the challenges that affect the program and come up with the proposed evaluation of general conduct of police trainee on filed training program and recommendation that the FTOs should undergo training or seminar on basic counselling technique and use counselling as a tool for correcting misbehavior of police trainees undergoing FTP. FTOs and FTC personnel should continuously exemplify their leadership skills and capabilities as model to the police trainees.
