Abstract
This study sought to determine the extent of contribution of the stress-causing factors to police personnel of Nueva Vizcaya that affect their job performance and to asses their level of stress in the given indicators. It specifically wanted to identify effective measures of strategies that police personnel undertake to manage stress- as bases for crafting a Stress Management Plan.
This study used the mixed0methids research design. The quantitative approach was used to gather data on the extent of contribution of factors to the stress of police personnel and the level of stress experienced by the respondents. The qualitative approach was used to gather data on the measures undertaken by police officers to address the stressors affecting their performance and the perceived effectiveness of these existing measures, Van Vianen 2018 of Person-Environment Fit Theory by Eccles & Midgley 1989, Job Demand-Resources mode, and Cox’s Classical Stress Model were used to assess the extent of contribution of personnel, family-related, work-related, and socio-related factors to the stress of the police personnel respondents of Nueva Vizcaya in the performance of their job, and to determine the relationship between role stress, work burnout, and work performance among Nueva Vizcaya police officers. In measuring the respondents’ assessment of the stressors and level of stress, weighted mean was used. In describing the measures undertaken to address the stressors encountered by the respondents and the perceived effectiveness of these measures, qualitative analysis was employed. Stratified sampling technique in determining the number of respondents per station. A researcher-made questionnaire which underwent validity test was utilized to gather data needed for the study.
Results of the study revealed that among the four factors, family-related factors are highly contributing, while work-related factors are moderately contributing to the stresses of police personnel. Overall, the extent of contribution of all the factors are moderately contributing. In their level of stress, workload pressure is highly stressful, followed by role conflict and work transition which are moderately stressful. Overall, police personnel perceived their level of stress as less stressful. Hence, a Stress Management Plan that offers stress reduction interventions is being recommended.
