Abstract
This quantitative study on Work-Life Balance (WLB) utilized a correlational
research design to analyze the WLB of Welfare and Development (WD) Officers in the jail
units of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 10. It aimed to
bridge the knowledge gap about WLB by localizing the same in the context of Jail Officers
in the Philippines, asthere is limited literature specifically tailored to this population. Using
the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model, this study measured the levels of four
independent variables: emotional demands, role problems, supervisory support, colleagues
support, and family support, as well as the dependent variable of WLB. The study also
determined the empirical relationships of these variables and the empirical relationship of
self-efficacy as a moderating variable. The results showed that supervisory support (Beta
= 0.242, p = 0.026) and family support (Beta = 0.372, p = 0.001) were significant predictors
of the WLB of the WD Officers. Moreover, the study revealed that self-efficacy moderated
ix
the relationship between job demands, resources, and WLB. These findings suggest that
key officers of the BJMP, from the strategic to the tactical level, should focus on
strengthening and promoting supervisory and family support while also contributing to the
development of their workforce's self-efficacy. This holistic approach is expected to
enhance the WLB of Jail Officers, ultimately improving their well-being and organizational
performance.
