Abstract
Obesity is a growing concern in the country, and BJMP personnel are not exempted.
This condition poses significant health risks such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and
reduced operational efficiency if left unaddressed. Despite an existing BJMP fitness
program, researchers have noticed that its implementation is not as effective as intended.
This study aimed to investigate the underlying social factors influencing the fitness
well-being of BJMP personnel, recognizing the crucial role of fitness in their overall
performance and health. The specific objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the
fitness well-being of BJMP personnel in Bacoor City Jail, (2) to determine the relationship
between fitness status and social determinants, and (3) to identify key areas for improvement
to enhance fitness well-being.
Conducted at Bacoor City Jail Male Dormitory in Cavite, data collected through
questionnaires and physical fitness tests were analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify
significant influences for a possible intervention. The research employed a quantitative

approach, utilizing a structured questionnaire and gathered physical fitness test results at
Bacoor City Jail Male Dormitory. Respondents' fitness levels and social determinant factors
were analyzed and correlation analyses were used to explore relationships between social
determinants and fitness well-being.
Findings indicated significant correlations between social relationships, work
environment, diet and lifestyle with personnel fitness levels. Higher levels of social
relationships and conducive work environments correlated positively with improved fitness
well-being among BJMP personnel. Conversely, no statistically significant correlations
existed between fitness status and education level, economic stability, or healthcare access
among BJMP personnel.
Key areas for improvement were identified and targeted interventions were
recommended to enhance peer support mechanisms and improve work environments for
personnel at Bacoor City Jail. Continuous monitoring and evaluation of these interventions
should be conducted to ensure sustained improvements in fitness well-being among BJMP
personnel.
