Abstract
In the current health crisis brought about by the Covid-19 Pandemic, the PNP played a major role to ensure the peace order of the community. Since the pandemic is new and the situation presents a different approach towards policing, there is a need to undertake a research study pertaining to police presence in the community during the period of pandemic. This research will enable us to craft a policy or to review, revise or enhance an existing policy.
This Action Research generally seeks to answer the problem on how the masses, particularly the four identified generations, Generation Z, Generation Y (Millennials), Generation X and the Baby Boomers, perceive police presence during health community quarantines due to Covid-19 pandemic. The generational approach was used because of the differing ages of the respondents and having an age gap of at least twenty years, there would be varying perceptions and views regarding the presence of the police during the pandemic among these ages.
The perceptions were gathered from the four groups to determine the general perception of each group and if there are significant differences in their perceptions. The 500 respondents from the four age categories in the survey via online who were randomly picked and asked came from the different areas in Metro Manila. The survey covered the period from September 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
A Knowledge-Based Management System enables new ways to process and analyze knowledge to gain better insights to solve problems and aid in decision and policy making. This Action Research therefore will provide empirical data to the PNP which can be used to improve the services provided to the community in this time of health crisis.
The results of the survey revealed that there is no significant difference in their perceptions on the presence of the police in the community during the community quarantine from the four groups, thus, it can be concluded that the average response of one group is congruent to the average response of another group per item of the research instrument.
On the other hand, there is a significant difference between the responses of the respondents from their respective groups. This further revealed that respondents of the same category group perceived differently with each other therefore categorizing one's perception using this kind of categorization should be further studied.
With that result, it was then recommended that further research study should be conducted using a larger population to strengthen the conclusion and to propose for a more comprehensive Action Plan which will definitely improve the kind of services that the police offered to the community it served no only in times of pandemic and/or health community quarantine but to other similar situations in the future.
