Abstract
In this action research, fire prevention efforts through the fire safety education shall be the focus or subject for review. Educational campaighn efforts will be assessed in the locality of Mandaluyong City. Researchers concentrated on the collaboration of the national government thru the Bureau of Fire Protection, the local government unit, the business sector and the community itself as to the cause and its possible effect/s of a well coordinated partnership of these stakeholders in sustaining a fire free community.
This study presented an action in which the formulation of a standardized and uniform teaching pattern to be used by all fire safety educators, for use in their lectures in the community. Currently, there is no uniform template, and fire safety educators formulate their own teaching pattern and ways how to impart knowledge. This results to confusion and at times, inadequacy in information dissemination with regards to fire safety education.
Based on the findings of the study, the fire safety education programs are implemented in terms of good quality education. However, there is shortfall as to the number of fire safety education conducted in the city of Mandaluyong. There is a serious need for a separate section or office to handle fire safety education program by the BFP to include seminars, fire drills and Ugnayan sa Barangay and similar programs of the bureau regarding fire safety awareness. There is a need to have a uniform teaching module in which all fire safety educators will follow as a guide when conducting
fire safety education in the community.
With these findings, it is highly recommended that the BFP should include education as a major activity in the fire prevention drive by increasing the number of personnel assigned in an office as a fire safety educator with goal settings as a matter of policy. With this, the establishment and creation of a division/section/unit within the BFP to solely handle fire safety education is of high importance. This include its regular implementation, monitoring and review. The development of a uniform and standard teaching module, in which it must contain basic concept on the selected topics discussed in the module and delivered with clarity and layman terms by the educator, in which lectures can easily be understood by the target audience. Lastly, strengthen the partnership between the BFP, LGU, other government agencies, the community, and the private business sector. One step to this endeavor is the regular conduct of planning and coordinating meetings between the abovementioned and other perceived stakeholders to ensure all fire safety programs will be adapted in the community and the other stakeholder. The possibility of deputizing fire volunteers to assist the BFP in conducting fire safety education using the drafted uniform template will be an invaluable tool for the information and education drive to the public in the interest of public safety and awareness.
