CRIME PREVENTION STRATEGIES IN URDANETA CITY BASIS FOR AN ENHANCED PLAN TO REDUCE CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES

Abstract
The goal of the author in this study was to determined and reviewed the anti-criminality program of Urdaneta City Police Station to reduced the criminal activities, identified the problems encountered by the police officers in the implementation of the crime prevention strategies and finally, realized what measure were undertaken to enhance the crime prevention strategies.
The respondents had affirmed on the anti-criminality program of the police officers to reduce the criminal activities through the implementation of the crime prevention strategies that were existing in the police station on study. Thus, this is a good sign that police officers must continue to procure mobile patrols and motorcycles to better serve the public in the community. Further, there were existingcrime prevention strategies implemented such as Lambat-Sibat, PIPS and Patrol 101.
The police officers and barangay officials and tanods who served as respondents agreed on the problems encountered which they personally experienced and served as a hindrance in the proper implementation of the various anti-criminality program which were deemed necessary for the reduction of criminal activities in the city of Urdaneta. The following were the problems encountered on the implementation of the crime prevention strategies in Urdaneta City Police Station. 1. Limited mobile and motorcycles in the conduct of patrol operations; 2. Limited supply of petrol, diesel and gas on conduct of patrol, police community relations and intelligence operations; 3. Barangay officials are not cooperative in giving information on crime incidents in their area of responsibility; 4. Inadequate support from the LGUs, LCE and other government agencies; and 5. Limited funding in the conduct of police community relations project and activities.
The respondents had similar perceptions that ther is a need to improve crime prevention strategies at Urdaneta City Police Station. The author had recommended the following measures for implementation Request for additional mobile and motorcycles for the conduct of patrol operations. Patrol operations to cover strategic areas where crimes occurred on a 24/7; Request additional supply of petrol, diesel and gas on the conduct of patrol, police community relations and intelligence operations to deter crimes from its occurrence; Initiate accesses to social media as means of communication to give information and reports crime through text messages fB, Twitter and Viver, Strengthen relations with the Barangay Officials to cooperate in giving information on crime incidents in their area of responsibility, Foster linkages with the LGU’s LCE and other government agencies for support; and Request for additional funds for the implementation of Police Community Relations projects and activities.
