Abstract
In the 21st century policing, the PNP is facing an increasing pressure due to the evolving challenges in public safety and security. Confronted with more complex challenges and responsibilities than ever, the PNP must cope with changes in technology, contend with new public safety and security threats, and in many cases, restructure policing strategies and techniques to properly balance the needs of the community as well as the needs and the safety of the PNP personnel. A study on Institutionalizing Psychological First Aid to improve the competencies of PNP WCPD personnel and other PNP first responders through Psychological First Aid cannot be discounted at present time considering the complexities of the law enforcement policing.
This study will be beneficial to the PNP Organization because a Competency Framework shall be formulated to capacitate the first responder personnel as well as those assigned at the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) with Psychological First Aid for them to be responsive in evaluating, handling and responding to cases involving victims/survivors suffering traumatic crisis events. Likewise, for the PNP personnel the study will enrich the PNP personnel, particularly those assigned in the WCPD as well as those personnel that are in contact with the community on a daily basis, with appropriate competency, hence they will be properly equipped to respond to crisis events involving victims in traumatic situation. And finally for clients suffering traumatic events will develop resiliency in times of crisis events because a competent police officer who can better respond and assist their immediate psychological and emotional needs will be available at all times to serve and protect. Henceforth, this study shall develop a Comprehensive Competency Framework on Psychological First Aid as response of the PNP organization to the complexities of Public Safety and Security Challenges in the 21st Century Policing.
