Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was conducted with a purpose of identifying and improving best practices of IIS of FD IV and V of BFP NCR Fire Arson Investigators in handling evidence and report writing. We have conducted a focus group interview with the goal of identifying best practices, areas for improvement, and what SMART(ER) actions can be taken. We have for formulated a questionnaire that would be the mode of inquiry for us to be able to better understand the process and best practices of IIS in evidence handling and report writing. It was comprised of five (5) questions : “1. Can you describe the current process of IIS in handling of arson evidence and report writing?”, “2. What do you think is the IIS best practices in handling of an Arson evidence and report writing?”, “3. What do you think is the IIS process can improve on?”, “4. What do you think caused the inefficiencies in the said process?”, and “5. What can you suggest/recommend to improve or maintain in the process?”. Our target respondents were focus groups within IIS of FD IV and V of BFP.
Upon receiving their responses, we have synthesized their answers and it was seen highlighted that investigators lacked advance and specialized technology for handling, processing, transporting, and processing evidence, also, there was a lack of training when it comes to report writing. Through these findings we were given a starting point for our SMART(ER) goals which we plan to be guided by the Lewin’s change management model and the PCDA model we would ensure that the SMART(ER) goals such as procuring new paraphernalia and providing targeted trainings and tech upskilling would continuously improve efficiency in handling evidence and report writing.
