Abstract
This study focused on the challenges and problems faced by firefighters who serve as
EMS providers in Rosales Fire Station. The research objectives of this study are to
determine the level of preparedness of the personnel in responding to vehicular accidents,
LGU requests for assistance, and other medical emergencies; identify the problems
encountered by the personnel; and provide recommendations to address these problems.
Firefighters who serve as EMS providers face distinctive challenges that require
specialized support and training to deliver effective EMS care. Addressing these
challenges is essential for ensuring the provision of high-quality EMS care to individuals
in need. The study employed a quantitative research method to achieve the objectives.
Based on the presented results, the researchers’ concluded that Rosales Fire
Station faces significant challenges in terms of its readiness to respond to vehicular
accidents. Results suggest that there is room for improvement in the station's ability to
handle such emergencies effectively. In terms of responding to LGU’s requests for
assistance, while the station is perceived to be "PREPARED" in providing training for
emergency medical orientation if requested by the LGU, there is a need for improvement
in providing a list of EMS equipment available for use by the LGU. In terms of their level
of preparedness in responding to medical emergencies, the station is perceived as less
prepared which suggests that there may be gaps in the station's ability to respond
effectively to medical emergencies, even with the presence of EMS personnel. The
shortage of personnel assigned to the EMS, as strongly agreed upon by the respondents,
4
could have serious implications for the station's ability to respond to medical emergencies
in a timely and effective manner.
The researchers recommend that the Rosales Fire Station should prioritize
enhancing its preparedness and response capabilities by ensuring adequate support. To
improve the availability and utilization of EMS equipment by the LGU, the station can
take several measures, including conducting a thorough inventory of all EMS equipment
and maintaining an updated and comprehensive list. To address the existing gaps in
effectively responding to medical emergencies, it is recommended that the station
undergo a comprehensive assessment of its EMS personnel and resources. In order to
tackle challenges such as limited personnel assigned to EMS, insufficient medical
supplies, and the need for immediate identification of emergency facilities, the Rosales
Fire Station should seek additional resources and support from the local government unit
and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
