Abstract
This capstone research explores the factors influencing motivation among jail
officers in Tarlac Province, Philippines. Utilizing Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene
Theory, the study examineds both intrinsic motivators (such as recognition,
responsibility, and advancement opportunities) and extrinsic hygiene factors
(including salary, job security, and working conditions) to understand their
impact on job satisfaction and performance. Conducted through self-made
surveys among jail officers in four BJMP-administered jails, the research
identifies key elements contributing to motivation levels.
The findings aimed to inform policies and practices for enhancing the work
environment, thereby improving jail officer performance and institutional safety.
The study underscores the significance of a balanced approach to motivation,
addressing both personal growth needs and essential workplace conditions, to
foster a motivated and effective workforce within the jail system.
Recommendations based on the study’s outcomes are proposed to guide
improvements in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s operational and
management practices.
