Abstract
The study focused on assessing the perception of Police Community Relations Officers and Senior High School Students regarding the implementation of school based preventive information and drug education program specifically Project READY. Included in the assessment are variables deemed as contributory to the implementation of the program which are management, competency of personnel and resources. The respondents in the conducted study are police officers assigned as Police Community Relations Officers and Senior High School Students. The Police Community Relations Officers are directly involved in the implementation of Project READY or have sufficient knowledge and information in the implementation of school based preventive information and drug education programs. The method used in the conducted study to attain its objectives was mixed method, a research methodology which comprised both quantitative and qualitative research approach. The assessed variables contributory to the implementation of the program revealed that the respondents have different evaluations as shown in the probability values which are all less than the level of significance which may be attributed to the level of perception and role of the respondents in the program. When asked about their perception on the program being implemented for the youth in preventing the use of illegal drugs, the Police Community Relations Officers unanimously agreed that it has positive effect on the youth. Further, the respondents unanimously mentioned lack of personnel as the most pressing issue and challenge in the implementation of the drug education program. School based preventive information and education program does not only raise awareness among the youth of the dangers of illegal drugs but also enhances community policing which is vital in building partnership with the members of the community. In order to optimize the implementation of Project READY the program must outlive any administration or the powers that be who are in charge of the government. In addition, the issue of personnel tasked in implementing the program must be addressed by conducting regular training and unnecessary reassignment of personnel involved in the program.
