Abstract
Firefighting equipment are indispensable in ensuring fire safety and efficiency in fire suppression. The us of firefighting equipment that are not properly working result in human life and property damages. Thus, this study aims to assess the status of equipment management of the BFP- Quezon City Fire District and identifying the gaps and challenges. Using qualitative research, key informant interviews were conducted. Results show that the equipment management of BFP starts with equipment needs assessment to identify the equipment to be purchased. They implement re-fleeting as criteria for distributing fire trucks. There are also gaps identified in the equipment management of BFP starts with equipment needs assessment to identify the equipment to be purchased. They implement re-fleeting in the equipment management of BFP specifically QCPD. As to resource allocation, lack of funding due to limitation set in the budget allocation and complicated process of resource allocation are the identified gaps. These challenges contribute to the delay in the procurement of equipment. Though it is provided in the standard operating procedure of BFP, there is no centralized motor pool or repair shop to cater to maintenance and repairs of fire trucks. As a result, there is lack of trained mechanic or specialist to maintain or repair the fire trucks. Similarly, there is also lack of trained personnel to trouble shoot problems for high-end equipment.
