Abstract
Part 1. CASE STUDY
The inception of COVID-19 virus has made a tragic impact to everyone worldwide. It has made everyone realize that no one is indispensable of this virus that have caused so many facets of life from health to economy to mention a few. But worst of all is the ill-effects it has brought to all frontliners most especially our Philippine National Police colleagues who set foot forward to enforce peace and order during lockdowns, though they knew that they themselves are vulnerable to this dreaded unseen enemy.
It is in this concept that this case study is conceptualized as this venture into exploring the psychological effects SARS-Cov-2 (Covid-19) to PNP personnel assigned at Metro Manila who were infected with this virus and timely to share to the research priorities and agenda of Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC).
Our group came up with this case study focusing on the psychological status of PNP personnel who were confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2. Our case study aims to provide a better perspective on the factors that affects the psychological aspect of our PNP personnel, providing them with immediate response to various needs and formulate preventive measures on a holistic approach to promote total well-being.
Pursuant to Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease Resolution No.11 series of 2020 dated March 12, 2020 and Memorandum from the Executive Secretary dated March 16, 2020 placing the entire island of Luzon under community quarantine, the Philippine National Police was tasked to provide peace and security and to safeguard public health. The PNP was at the forefront in preventing the spread of this pandemic as community quarantine checkpoints were established. But, as the PNP provided a maximum support to the country, its frontliners were affected one after the other.
Since then, PNP personnel confirmed to be infected with SARS-CoV-2 begun to increase. As reported cases of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 rises there were reports that psychological issues begun to manifest among those reported confirmed cases. The researchers find this case study timely and appropriate as we will tackle the psychological effects of SARS-CoV-2 to infected PNP personnel assigned in Metro Manila. Considering that this is a sensitive matter to discuss, the researchers made sure that the personal identification of those cases were treated with utmost confidentiality and anonymity.
