Abstract
This study was conducted to look into the lived experiences of Dumagat Tribe members in the armed struggle of the CPP-NPA Regions III and IVA. The respondents of the study were eight (8) selected Dumagat Tribe Members who were former rebels operating in the areas Regions III and IVA. Using the guide questions, the researchers conducted the interviews using a voice recorder and later transcribed the responses word for word and extracted the emerging themes.
The problems that emerged from the respondents in the study were unanimous with regards to their generalized knowledge and experience as former members of CPP-NPA, sharing the experience of being persuaded to join, confession about their internal and external difficulties, defining the recruitment anchored on the promise of a better life, and the need to address education and livelihood of every tribe member. Similarly, the summarized findings from the interviews were discussed in relation with theories and other research findings from the gathered literature. The significance of acknowledging these findings is that the Dumagat indigenous people are being left out and discriminated, and that there is a necessity to protect and provide them with the necessary infrastructure and social services available from the government, in order to avert their future participation in the armed struggle.
