Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between knowledge of the Good Conduct
Time Allowance (GCTA) law and the level of participation in rehabilitation programs and
services among Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at Bacoor City Jail-Male dormitory.
Utilizing the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as its theoretical framework, the research
explores how PDL's knowledge of GCTA influences their attitudes, subjective norms, and
perceived behavioral control towards engaging in rehabilitation initiatives.
Findings indicate a strong understanding of GCTA among PDL, who recognize its
potential impact on sentence reduction through active participation in rehabilitation.
Positive attitudes towards rehabilitation programs were prevalent, with PDL viewing these
initiatives as essential for personal growth and rehabilitation. External support from peers,
family, and jail personnel played a crucial role in motivating PDL to participate actively.
The study underscores the significant correlation between knowledge of GCTA and
participation in rehabilitation programs (r = .141, p < 0.05), emphasizing the importance
of informed awareness in shaping PDL's engagement behaviors within correctional
settings.
Based on these findings, recommendations are made to enhance educational
programs about the GCTA law, foster a supportive environment for rehabilitation efforts,
strengthen peer and familial encouragement, and improve accessibility to rehabilitation
services. These efforts aim to optimize rehabilitation outcomes and support the successful
reintegration of PDL into society.
