Abstract
Philippine National Police (PNP) is tasked with enforcing the law, to prevent and control crimes, maintain peace and order, and ensure public safety and internal security with the active support of the community. Police-community relation is inevitable. Recently, they experienced increments in their salaries due to the salary standardization in which they turned to be the center of public perceptions and expectations. Hence, this study was conducted to determine the influence of salary standardization towards to public image of the PNP personnel and to help the organization on how to improve the image of the police towards the community and the public in general. A quantitative research design was employed in this study which provided numerical responses through an adopted survey questionnaire which was distributed randomly to 400 respondents in Cagayan de Oro which were classified to different sectors in the community specifically the business, education, religious, transport and general household. The findings showed that the public had positive feedback on the performance of the police officers since they moderately agreed that PNP personnel are effective, responsive, efficient, innovative, creative, strategic and competent after the salary standardization was implemented in the PNP and have a high extent of the perceived image on PNP personnel with regards to their professionalism, obedience, morality and justice and fairness.
In addition, the younger Filipinos and those who belong to education sector have higher perception towards the PNP personnel compared with the older ones and those who belong to other sectors. And, it showed that Filipinos with post graduate studies have lower level of perception on the police officers after the salary standardization and on their image. Generally, the effectiveness, responsiveness, efficiency, innovativeness and strategic were considered as the salary standardization determinants that could influence the image of the public safety services of the DILG.
