ABSTRACT

This action research identified a need to recommend a systematic approach for managing of records at Navotas City Fire Station. The records management system will help to effectively manage records created manually and electronically and to integrate all centrally by using the established systematic approach. This will go along with using different components including the self-audit tool in accordance to the best practices and provisions of the Republic Act No. 9470.

The objectives of the research were to identify the formats and system used in managing its records that caused the issues and challenges emerged on the current records management practice of the station. Another is to assess the current status of the records management and its compliance to RA 9470 and finally to recommend a systematic approach for the improvement of the records management in the station.

The methods used to collect data were interviews, observation as well as questionnaires given to the collaborators using different kinds of frameworks. The research was carried out through purposive inquiry which constituted of staff and personnel from the station. Data was analyzed using descriptive and analytical frameworks.

Given these, the station needs to capacitate its records custodian and personnel with trainings pertaining to RA 9470 and craft a standardized records management system using RA 9470 as a tool. Implement the crafted system and monitor its compliance using the self-audit tool.
